LUNAFEST @ Tribeca Cinemas
Meet a young girl who was born a boy. Follow a group of Pacific Islander women who start a rugby team. Dodge romantic set-ups and suitors with a reluctant bride.
LUNAFEST, the traveling festival of short films by, for and about women, comes to Tribeca Cinemas on Wednesday, October 26. Sponsored by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, and now in its 11th season, LUNAFEST was created with two goals in mind: 1) support and nurture the inspiring and often unsung work of talented women filmmakers; and 2) raise funds and awareness for organizations that help, empower and give a voice to women from all walks of life.

Writer, model, entrepreneur and advocate Christy Turlington Burns will host the evening’s festivities, which benefits Every Mother Counts, an organization dedicated to increasing education and support of maternal and child health, and the Breast Cancer Fund, a nonprofit working to find and eliminate the environmental causes of the disease. Christy’s powerful film Every Mother Counts: Obstetric Fistula, makes its New York film festival debut at LUNAFEST, alongside eight other entries that include thought-provoking documentaries, compelling dramas, as well as wickedly funny shorts.
Jane Rosenthal, Founder of the Tribeca Film Festival will also be on hand to say a few words, as well as Breast Cancer Fund President Jeanne Rizzo. Reception with wine and food is at 6:30 pm. The films will screen at 8 pm, followed by a Q&A session with several LUNAFEST filmmakers.
