A Tribute To Melvin Van Peebles - Friday, February 20th

Melvin Van Peebles, widely regarded as ” the Godfather of Black Cinema”, will be saluted on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20th at Tribeca Cinemas. The program starts at 7PM.

The night is being hosted by the Black Filmmaker Foundation & Tribeca Cinemas as a gallery talk. It will feature testimonials accompanied by critical commentary with film clips. Admission is free with a $15 drink minimum.

The distinguished speakers will illustrate why Melvin Van Peebles is the essential figure in the history of black cinema and the artist whose seminal films provided the foundation of contemporary black independent cinema in New York and the United States. Cocktails will be available in The Varick Room following the program.

Participating critics, scholars, filmmakers, and actors will be announced shortly.
