Program Notes

In the early nineteenth century, Van Diemen's Land (later Tasmania) is a brutal place, home to a British penal colony where back-breaking work is the daily routine. When Alexander Pearce and a group of fellow convicts stage an escape and take flight across the forbidding landscape, they are unprepared for the lengths they'll have to go to in order to survive. Soon, murder and even darker deeds are the order of the day. This harrowing and starkly beautiful re-telling of the infamous true story of Pearce and his men is a chilling depiction of the growth of evil.

About the Director

Jonathan grew up in Tasmania and has held a long time ambition to bring infamous convict Alexander Pearceís story to the screen, and embarked on study at the VCA School of Film and Television (University of Melbourne) to develop the necessary skills. An experienced actor, Jonathan has performed with many Tasmanian and Victorian companies and appeared in film and television.
