TEARS OF APRIL is a superb historical drama that illuminates the cruelty of wartime while offering a glimmer of hope for humanity. At the end of Finland's civil war in 1918, the government-supported Whites are rounding up the Social Democratic Reds, many of them women who are raped and murdered by their captors. Private Aaro Harjula cannot tolerate the cruel abuses he has witnessed and insists on taking Miina Malin, a young Red platoon leader, to await trial. His hopes of fair treatment are dashed by the corruption of the judge, but along the way Aaro and Miina have developed an unlikely connection that will force Aaro to make an agonizing choice.
