Program Notes

Following up her international success with Cannes Camera D'Or winning film OR (MY TREASURE), director Keren Yedaya introduces another stunning and complex family drama with JAFFA. A star-crossed secret romance develops between a Jewish girl, Mali, and an Arab man, Toufik, who works alongside Mali at the garage owned by her father. Suddenly, tragedy interrupts the young lovers' intentions to elope and hopes to escape the intolerant world of their families. This Romeo and Juliet story is as timeless as the setting; the ancient port town of Jaffa, a microcosmic crossroads of backgrounds and religions that creates the perfect milieu for this tale of shifting values and concealed prejudice.
