DESERT FLOWER is the true story of Waris Dirie, a Somalian nomad who would become a top supermodel and eventually use her influence to affect the lives of countless women all over the world. The story begins when a homeless teenaged Waris (played by supermodel Liya Kebede) befriends the ebullient wild child Marylin (Sally Hawkins). As Marylin introduces her to a new life in the UK, Waris is simultaneously forced to confront the realities of her harrowing past and the childhood trauma that changed her life forever. Tracing Dirie's path from tortured child to triumphant adult, DESERT FLOWER is an incredible tale of one woman's remarkable courage.
