Program Notes

Daniel has traveled from New York City to the mountains of upstate New York to spread his father’s ashes. As he hikes into the wilderness, he meets Abraham, a mysterious man prone to giving gnomic bits of advice and whose condescending helpfulness becomes increasingly unhelpful and sinister. This collaborative small feature (the two cast members and the director also form the core of its crew) recalls the work of both Samuel Beckett and Jack London, contrasting the natural beauty of its mountainous winter setting with sudden, shocking violence and a chain of events that become increasingly more disturbing and surreal.

Expected to be in attendance:  Director Ryan Eslinger

About the Director

During the summer between Ryan's sophomore and junior years in college, he shot his first feature film, MADNESS AND GENIUS. It premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival and received the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Feature Film Prize at the 2003 Hamptons International Film Festival.
